Rudisha Runs Blazing 800m Time At Altitude

He is the man to beat at the Olympics

The world-record holder in the 800m, David Rudisha of Kenya, appears to be unstoppable. At the Kenyan Olympic Trials on Saturday, he proved, once again, that he is the king of middle-distance events.

Rudisha clocked 1:42.12 in Nairobi’s high-altitude air to win the event.

This is good news for him, considering a tendon injury that prevented him from competing four years ago in Beijing at the 2008 Olympics.

“I’m very happy since Kenyans love sport and they love athletics and they give us support,” said Rudisha, “Even today, they cheered as the start list was being announced and that is why I always want to deliver something for them.”

“If I wanted to run a slow race and win nice and comfortable, I would have done that but for those who are not able to come and watch us run in Europe, I try to do my best to show them how we perform there live. It’s such an honor,” he said.

In other Kenyan Olympic Trials news, Vivian Cheruiyot, secured her Olympic team slot in the 5,000m. She confirmed her placing in the 10,000m a week earlier.
