Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver to Host USATF Colorado State Half Marathon Championships

The USA Track & Field Colorado Association and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series today announced that the USATF Colorado Association State Half Marathon Championships (State Championships) will take place at the Janus Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon following the recent cancellation of the Boulder Marathon. The Janus Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver event weekend is scheduled for Oct. 17-19, 2014.

“After the unfortunate developments in Boulder, we’re thrilled that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series has stepped up to host the 2014 State Half Marathon Championships in Denver,” said Dan Pierce, President of the USATF Colorado Association. “Our mission is to provide more opportunities and better service for our athletes. To host our State Championships in Denver is an ideal alternative and we are confident that the Janus Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver event will provide a world-class venue and gracious hospitality to the competitors.”

The 2014 State Championships will feature $6,500 in prize money plus time bonuses dedicated to half-marathon athletes. In order to be eligible for State Championship awards, athletes must be members of USATF–Colorado and be eligible to represent the United States in international athletics competition. Athletes interested in competing can email eliteathletes@competitorgroup.com for additional information.

“As a former president and executive director of a USATF association, I have the utmost appreciation for what USATF Colorado is trying to do for its long distance runners and we are delighted to host the 2014 State Championships,” said Tracy Sundlun, SVP of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series and former track coach at the University of Colorado. “We are proud of our five-year history in Denver and have been working closely with the Colorado running community to support it in every way possible.”

Hosting the State Championships follows the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series offering of free entry to runners displaced by the cancellation of the Boulder Marathon. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon initially guaranteed spots for the first 200 transfers and increased capacity to extend complimentary entries to 300 impacted runners due to overwhelming response.

Boulder entrants, who have not redeemed a free Denver entry, can email proof of registration to rnrdenver@competitorgroup.com with the subject line “Boulder Transfer” to receive a $50 discount on any remaining 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event. Limited entries remain for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon and the event is on pace to sell out.
