Robin Hood Marathon Cancelled

The roads are too dangerous now.

The roads are too dangerous now.

All is not well for runners in Sherwood Forest, England. For the first time in 30 years, the annual Robin Hood Marathon will not take place. It doesn’t have anything to do with Robin Hood’s arch nemesis, the Sheriff of Nottingham. Instead, blame traffic.

Organizers have stated that the 26.2-mile route is just not safe anymore.

Race director Chris Sumner admitted that there is no real viable option for re-routing the race due to the tram works near the finish line. “Up until now we have been able to run on quiet roads around it but we can no longer do that as it has become busier,” he stated.

Nottingham City spokesperson had this to say about the unfortunate events: “We have worked with the organisers to ensure the half marathon goes ahead and we would be happy to see if we can find a solution so that the full marathon can take place as well.”

Approximately 12.000 runners took part in the marathon last year.
