Scotland’s famous cross-country race now boasts an International Team Challenge.
American Olympians Dathan Ritzenhein and Galen Rupp will both race as part of the U.S. squad at the Men’s International Team Challenge at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country race next month. Ritzenhein has been named team captain.
Both runners are coached by former New York City Marathon champion Alberto Salazar.
The International Team Challenge is a new event offered in the traditional cross-country race that takes place in Scotland’s capital city.
According to elite athlete coordiinator Andy Caine, Salazar will be an ambassador for the event. “He sees the first ever staging of the Team Challenge as a welcome and important addition to the global calendar,” said Caine.
Seven other Americans including Matt Gabrielson and Ed Moran will round out the American squad.
The race will be televised on BBC television. Two other events are to take place: a 4.2K men’s and a 5.7K women’s race.
