Resignations Throw Salt Lake Marathon Into Chaos

The longtime race director quit back in October.

Many Utah runners are uneasy presently. According to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune, the future of the highly popular Salt Lake Marathon is in question due to the resignations of the race’s entire organizational staff. Apparently, they are all owed “thousands of dollars”. The longtime race director, Scott Kerr, resigned back in October. Kerr noted that he “reached a point of serious concern” with how the race was being organized.

The former staff are questioning how the race’s owner, Chris Devine, will be able to pull off the event at all.

“If I had to guess … it’s going to take a pretty skilled crew to get it back on track in such a short time,” said Wendy Kelly who quit with Kerr back in October.

Devine remains undeterred, commenting that he is in the process of hiring a new director.

“It would be like a head coach leaving a team,” Devine said. “Where we are now is, we need a new head coach who I’m sure will engage a very competent staff.”
