The women’s world record holder is not discouraged by injuries.

British marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe cites a recent injury as the reason for her fourth place finish at the New York City Marathon. The oft-injured Radcliffe has spent much of 2009 on the mend. The Brit has suffered from tonsilitis, bunion surgery and a hamstring injury, which has kept her out of, or out of contention, in all of her major races in 2009.

The one piece missing from Radcliffe’s resume is an Olympic medal. In three appearances she has failed to medal, twice in the 10,000m and twice in the marathon, but she hopes that will all change in London at the 2012 Games. Radcliffe has been quick to re-assure the public that her “failure” in New York was due to injury and she is reaching the end of her career.
