INDIANAPOLIS — USA Track & Field announced that the 2013 USA Outdoor Championships would be held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The championships, last held in Des Moines in 2010, will be hosted by the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Des Moines Area Sports Commission and Drake University. “We are proud to once again welcome USATF to Track Central USA in Des Moines,” said Greg Edwards, Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO, through a statement. This meeting will be the USA trials for the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Moscow.

BROOKLYN, NY — On the heels of a very successful NYC Half on March 18, the New York Road Runners announced that their other marquis half-marathon, the Brooklyn Half, had sold out with over 15,000 entries in just ten hours. “Registration for the Brooklyn Half-Marathon was a phenomenal, record-breaking success, selling out faster than any NYRR race ever has before,” said New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg through a statement. “We can’t wait to celebrate our excited runners as they take on a 13.1-mile tour through the heart and best of Brooklyn.”  The race is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, on a new course from Prospect Park to Coney Island.

NEW YORK — Organizers of the adidas Grand Prix, scheduled for Ichan Stadium on Saturday, June 9, announced that two of the best high school middle distance runners in America, Cami Chapus and Edward Cheserek, would be competing in the boys’ and girls’ Dream Mile events. Chapus, from Los Angeles, Calif., hopes to break the USA high school mile record of 4:35.1. She won the Dream Mile last year in 4:42.71. Cheserek, a Kenyan who attends St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J., finished fourth in last year’s Dream Mile, but should be hard to beat this year. He had an epic indoor season in 2012, clocking 4:02.21 for the mile and 13:57.04 for 5000m, the latter was a USA high school record. He also won the national high school two-mile indoor title.

NEW YORK, NY — The Armory Foundation announced that Ray Flynn would return next year as meeting director of the Millrose Games. Armory Foundation executive director Dr. Norbert Sander said through a statement that Flynn had signed on for a three-year term at the helm of America’s oldest indoor track meet. “We are more than pleased to report that Ray Flynn has signed a multi-year agreement to continue as meet director of the Millrose Games,” Sander said through a statement. While the date for the 2013 meet hasn’t been set, Sander is offering the possibility of moving the meet to Feb. 16, to allow athletes to compete in both the USATF Classic in Fayetteville, Ark., (Feb. 9) and the Millrose Games. “It would remove any potential conflicts and place the indoor season schedule squarely in service to our great athletes,” Sander said.

VIENNA, AUT — Organizers of the 25th Austrian Women’s run, scheduled for Sunday, June 3, reported that their event had sold out with a record 30,000 entrants. The sell-out took just 25 days. “It’s almost unbelievable!” exclaimed race organizer Ilse Dippmann through a news release. “I’m really looking forward to welcome 30,000 women at the starting line of this year’s 25th anniversary run!”
