Prague Marathon Records Expected To Fall

Kenyans are poised to strike in the Czech capital.

Kenyans are poised to strike in the Czech capital.

Next month, some of the world’s top elite marathoners are taking to the streets of Prague. Specifically, they will be toeing the line at the Volkswagen Prague Marathon on May 12.

The elite athlete manager for the IAAF Gold Label Race, Jana Moberly, has some bold predictions as to what will unfold there.

“We’ve got some top runners and, providing the weather conditions are right, we can start to think about the course records,” Moberly said.

In the men’s race, all eyes will be on Albert Matebor. At 32, the Kenyan owns a 2:05:25 personal best for the 26.2-mile distance.

This time happens to be a full 14 seconds faster than the Prague course record.

On the women’s side, the top prospect also happens to be from Kenya. Lydia Cheromei is the current owner of top Prague marks in the half-marathon and the marathon.

Fellow Kenyan Caroline Rotich is another woman who may go after the record.
