Powell, Gay Might Race At Prefontaine Classic
Jamaica’s Asafa Powell is already committed to running the 100 meters in Eugene on Sunday. Gay is reportedly considering it.
It’s an odd dance that world-class sprinters do: Continuously thinking and talking about their rivals and trying to intimidate them through their performances but generally avoiding racing one another head-to-head until they absolutely have to (e.g. in a World Championships final). So track and field fans feel they have received a surprise gift whenever medal-caliber sprinters square off in other circumstances, as it appears Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay might do at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on Sunday.
