According to the Associated Press, South African Paralympic runner Oscar was indicted on charges of murder and illegal possession on Monday.
The 26-year-old is accused of shooting his girlfriend at his house on Valentine’s Day last year. According to prosecutors, the double-amputee sprinter killed Reeva Steenkamp after an argument. They have listed 100 witness who will testify in court on March 3.
Pistorius was seen in court crying and holding hands with his siblings. Per South African law, Pistorius can receive a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison. The country has no death penalty.
South Africa’s national police commissioner says that detectives, forensic experts, ballistics experts, psychologists, and technology experts are all prepared to give testimony that can convict Pistorius.
Apparently, the most convincing evidence includes cell phone records and the bathroom door through which Pistorius fired four fatal bullets.
Now that the indictment papers have been served, a judge at the High Court in Pretoria will preside over the trial.
