The South African sprinter has already been indicted for murder.
Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius’ legal woes continue to mount. The South African Olympian has already been indicted for charges of murder, as he was arrested earlier this year for the shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
The new indictment papers contain two additional firearms charges that claim that Pistorius fired a gun in public on two occasions.
Prosecutor Nathi Mncube indicated that the papers were served to Pistorius’ lawyer on Wednesday.
“What happened today is … Mr. Pistorius was served with a new indictment. We have to advise him [of the extra charges] to accord him with enough time to prepare his defense,” Mncube said.
The means that Pistorius will face a murder charge as well as three other gun-related charges when he goes to trial next March.
His lawyers could fight the new gun charges being included at the same time as the murder charge, because the gun offenses allegedly took place in another jurisdiction.
