Peet van Zyl, the agent of double amputee runner Oscar Pistorius, recently told the Associated Press that his athlete will not be taking part in any races for the near future.

Pistorius has been accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in his home in Pretoria, South Africa last week.

Next month, he was to take on rival Alan Oliveira.

“I can’t plan anything,” Van Zyl said of his athlete’s schedule. “I will only have him run when he is in a condition to run as a world-class athlete. Physically and mentally fit.”

Last Friday, Pistorius appeared in court for the first time and broke down crying.

Van Zyl said the first two races that he cancelled were in Sydney, Australia on March 9 and then again in Perth on March 16.

Pistorius is the first amputee athlete to run at the able-bodied world championships in 2011. He also competed in the Olympics last year.
