More than 400 competitors from 18 states competed in the championships.

The 2014 Dion Snowshoes U.S. National Snowshoe Championships were held Feb. 28-March 2 at Prospect Mountain Ski Area in Woodford, Vt. The event attracted more than 400 participants from around the U.S. who had qualified in U.S. Snowshoe Racing Association qualifying races., as well as international athletes from Canada, Australia, Spain, Brazil, Great Britain and Puerto Rico. Eric Hartmark, 35, of Duluth, Minn., earned his first U.S. title with a 42:20 effort on the 10K course, 17 seconds ahead of Scott Gall, 39, of Cedar Falls, Iowa. [Canadian runners David Le Porho (41:51) and Joel Bourgeois (42:06) were the first two runners across the line but ineligible for U.S. championship standings.] Amber Ferreira, 31, of  Concord, N.H., won the women’s 10K championship race in 51:31 with a sizable cushion over Kristina Folcik, 37, of Northwood, N.H. (53:51) and Ashley Krause, 37, of Easthampton, Mass. (54:44). Mitchell Ryan, 19, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., won the junior men’s 5K race in 21:53, while Jeanette Cudney, 18, of Cazenovia, N.Y., was the junior women’s 5K champion in 26:03.
