The Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord

Andorra, a small country tucked in the Pyrenees Mountains between Spain and France, has the amount and variety of dizzily stunning trails that runners dream of, but running them comes at the physical cost of tackling staggering amounts of elevation gains and losses. During the last weekend of June, the seventh running of the Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord included races of 170K, 112K, 83K and 42.5K distance, plus a 10K family event (which still included 2,500 feet of vertical gain.) Although it doesn’t have the worldwide cachet some other European races, some of the biggest names in trail running have risen to the challenge in Andorra—including Kilian Jornet who ran (and won) a 105K route in 2009. This year, the biggest field yet, almost 2,500 hundred racers, toed the line in Ordino, Andorra, to try their legs and lungs on the looped courses.
