Check out these awesome shots from a stunning running destination.
The trend of destination racing—flying to a cool place to run a race—isn’t new. But there are plenty of compelling variations on that theme. The seven-race Wine Country Half Marathon Series fits that bill, sending runners on rolling, 13.1-mile courses alongside scenic vineyards in California, Virginia and British Columbia, Canada. The most recent race, the eighth-annual Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon on May 10, was run on a point-to-point course from the small community of Santa Ynez through the town of Los Olivos to the Danish-settled village of Solvang, all with with stunning views of the Sierra Madre Mountains in the background. Festivities included a gourmet pre-race meal and local wine-tasting opportunities before, during and after the race (at the Wine & Music Festival in Solvang Park). Scroll through the images below to see some of the highlights of last weekend’s race in Santa Barbara. The next race in the series is the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon on May 31 in Leesburg, Va.
