How New Balance Makes Running Shoes in America

Scott Draper recently visited the Lawrence manufacturing facility to create this day-in-the-life photo essay of the historic factory.

New Balance was founded in 1906 and has been making athletic footwear for the past 75 years. It’s the only athletic shoe manufacturer that makes a portion of its products in the U.S. As of 2015, it employs about 1,300 people who produce 4 million pairs of shoes annually in its five U.S. manufacturing facilities—one in Boston, one in Lawrence, Mass., and three in Maine. Competitor photo editor Scott Draper recently visited the Lawrence manufacturing facility to create this day-in-the-life photo essay of the historic factory.
