Houston Marathon And Half Marathon
The 13.1-mile race doubled as the USA Half Marathon Championship
















Twenty-five thousand runners hit the streets of Houston on Sunday for the Chevron Houston Marathon and Half Marathon, the latter of which served as the USA Half Marathon Championship.
Abebech Bekele of Ethiopia won the women’s marathon title in 2:25:52, and she was joined on the podium by countrywomen Meskerem Assefa (2:25:59) and Gelete Burka (2:26:03). Ethiopian Bazu Worku (2:07:32) won the men’s 26.2-mile race ahead of countryman Getachew Terfa (2:07:54) and Mexican Jose Antonio Uribe (2:08:55).
In the half marathon, American Meb Keflezighi stopped the clock in 1:01:23 to take the win and claim the U.S. Half Marathon Championship, his 22nd national title. Aaron Braun (1:01:38) and Josphat Boit (1:01:41) were second and third. Serena Burla (1:10:48) was the women’s champion, ahead of Lauren Kleppin (1:12:12) and Caitlin Comfort (1:12:16). It was Burla’s first national title.
