2013 Berlin Marathon

Scenes from the Berlin Marathon, which saw Wilson Kipsang break the men's marathon world record.

History was made at the Berlin Marathon on Sept. 29, as Wilson Kipsang eclipsed the men’s marathon world record with a time of 2:03:23. His result lowered the mark of 2:03:38 Patrick Makau set in Berlin two years ago. Finishing behind Kipsang was Eliud Kipchoge (2:04:05) and Geoffrey Kipsang (2:06:26). In the women’s race, American Desiree Davila completed her first marathon since January 2012 and finished fifth with a time of 2:29:15. Davila qualified for the London Olympics but dropped out of the race early due to an injury. Taking the women’s title in Berlin was Florence Kiplagat (2:21:13), with Sharon Cherop (2:22:28) and Irina Mikitenko (2:24:54) placing second and third. Mikitenko’s time broke the women’s masters world record.
