It was a great day for American runners at the oldest marathon in the U.S. on April 18, 2011 as three Americans crossed the finish-line as top-5 finishers at the 2011 Boston Marathon. In the men’s race, Ryan Hall finished fourth in a personal best 2:04:58, making him the only American to ever break the 2:05 barrier in the marathon. On the women’s side, Desiree Davila made a huge breakthrough, finishing second to Kenyan Caroline Kilel in 2:22:38. Kara Goucher finished an impressive fifth in 2:24:52, a personal best, less than 6 months after giving birth to her first child.
