Peter Kirui Chasing Fast Time In Amsterdam

He may be Kenya’s next great marathoner.

Fall marathon season is right around the corner, and one man is on a mission to blaze: Kenya’s Peter Kirui.

The sixth-place finisher at last year’s World Championships in Athletics will toe the line at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon on October 21.

Kirui has previously been assigned pacemaker duties for marathoners. In fact, at last year’s Berlin Marathon, he assisted Patrick Makau in setting a new world record. In that same race, the 24-year-old Kenyan set a personal best for 30K (1:27:38).

Just a month after Berlin, Kirui was at it again–this time assisting Wilson Kipsang to win the Frankfurt Marathon.

This year, Kirui won the prestigious New York Half Marathon, setting a new PR in 59:39.

Many are looking at the young Kirui to be the new face of Kenyan marathoning and some hope he will win gold for the East African nation at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

According to race organizers, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon will attract approximately 12,000 starters.
