Paula Radcliffe Down But Not Out
The 2005 World Champion refuses to quit.
The world-record holder refuses to quit.
Even though injury has gotten the better of her lately, Paula Radcliffe of the United Kingdom still owns the world record in the marathon.
The British ace missed competing in front of a hometown crowd in London last month at the Olympics due to osteoarthritis in her foot. She was recently told that she would never be able to run again, but that’s not stopping her.
“I don’t want to finish on a down after what happened in the Olympics,” she told the BBC recently.
Some people told me before the Olympics that I wouldn’t be able to run on it [her injured foot] ever again.
“I didn’t really accept that so I met with different people, got different scans and met with the surgeon who had actually done the surgery on my other foot back in 2009.”
Radcliffe now says that she is possibly setting her sights on the forthcoming London Marathon next April.
“It’s on my mind,” she says of the annual race along the famous Thames River.
