Pair Wins Fight To Run NYC Marathon

The New York Road Runners reversed their initial decision.

Matt Brown is a fighter.

In 2010, he was paralyzed playing hockey for Norwood High School in Massachusetts. He recently partnered with longtime friend and seasoned marathoner Lucas Carr to run the New York City Marathon.

But getting in wasn’t easy.

They were originally denied entry to the November race because official rules state that to run through the city’s iconic five boroughs, you have to be able to power yourself — that’s not the case for Brown, since he would be pushed by Carr.

Brown didn’t give up after the initial rejection and vowed to fight the decision.

The New York Road Runners, the race’s organizing body, took another look at the their decision earlier this week, and according to a report on the CBS Boston website, Brown’s father confirmed on Thursday that the New York Road Runners changed their initial decision and have allowed Brown and Carr to take part in the 26.2-mile race.
