Oregon Wine Country Half Set For Sept. 1

Oregon-based runners take note: one of the most scenic races in the Beaver State takes place this Sunday.

The fourth edition of the Wine Country Half Marathon begins at the Stoller Family Estate Winery. More than 13 miles later, runners will cross the finish line in Carlton at Main and Pine Streets.

Over 2,000 competitors will be taking part and there are still slots available for late registration.

However, according to race director Matt Dockstader, the race is expected to sell out.

“We’ve always been able to attract a heavy influence of out-of-state participants to this race, and now the Oregon running community is discovering what a jewel of an event we have here in the heart of the Willamette Valley,” he said.

According to Running USA, U.S. Olympian Kara Goucher will be the guest speaker at the Race Expo on Aug. 31.

Goucher finished 11th overall in the marathon at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also placed third at the 2009 edition of the Boston Marathon.
