After working for years preparing for their chance to make the U.S. Olympic Marathon squad, Trials qualifiers may get a big break from mother nature on Saturday. According to a report on Chron.com, earlier this week rain arrived in the race’s host city, Houston, with a cold front arriving that will bring temperatures into the 50s on race day.
“The course was unaffected by the recent flooding in the area, and we are confident that this course will be well received by both the athletes and the spectators,” said the associate director for USA Track & Field, Jim Estes. “Right now, the conditions for Saturday look pretty close to ideal. It looks like the athletes will not have to deal with any rain or wind, and with temperatures in the 50s the stage will be set for great performances all around.”
A total of 158 men and 223 women have qualified for the Trials race, which takes place one day before the Chevron Houston Marathon.
