A half marathon is no easy feat for any runner. But imagine doing one midway through a pregnancy? That’s exactly what two-time Olympic softball medalist Jennie Finch did.
“I went from a 2-mile run to a half-marathon,” Finch admitted. “It’s not the way you want to go about it. But I ran the whole way. I was thinking that it would be a good way to keep my competitive spirit alive. “
Finch completed the distance in order to prepare for the upcoming New York City Marathon on November 6. Her son, Diesel Dean Daigle, was born last June.
Yesterday, she announced that she will take part in the marathon as part of deal with the Timex watch company and the New York Road Runners. Finch will start dead last and Timex will donate one dollar for every runner she passes to the NYRR youth program.
“I’m up to 10 miles right now,” Finch said. “So I’m going to be crashing it in to get to where I need to be come November.”
