NYC Olympic Bid Considered

The Big Apple is looking at the 2024 Summer Games.

The Big Apple is looking at the 2024 Summer Games.

According to a report on the Games Bids Web site, the U.S. Olympic Committee is considering partnering with New York City to submit a bid for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Dallas and Chicago may also be in the mix as well.

If New York City were to bid on the Games, they would have to begin the process as early as 2014. The Big Apple originally sought to bring the 2012 Games to the five boroughs, but lost out to London.

However, New York’s 2024 bid could be stronger given that it has new stadiums and arenas in Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and New Jersey.

Rick Ludwig, who worked on the failed 2012 bid is optimistic about New York City’s chances. “It has corporate sponsors and a large population for buying tickets. It has the mass transit.”

But Ludwig says there are still obstacles like raising public money to pay for the Games, as well as security.
