No Stadium Finish For Olympic Marathons

Races at 2012 London Games will commence on the roads.

In a break from tradition, it was recently announced that neither the men’s nor women’s marathon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London will finish with a lap of Olympic Stadium.

It is expected that the finish for both races will be on The Mall, similar to that of the London Marathon, with Buckingham Palace in the backdrop. Specific details have not been confirmed, but organizers expect the race to be staged on a loop course that will showcase the city. The marathon races–whose order has not yet been determined–will be staged on Sunday, August 19th and Sunday, August 26th 2012.
