Two days may not seem like a long span of time. But imagine doing nothing but running for those 48 hours.
That’s what Washington Heights, New York City resident did on May 13. He broke an American record while completing the feat.
In those two days, he covered a toal of 257 miles. That turns out to be 30 miles longer than the distance from New York to Boston.
“People tell me I’m insane,” he said. “I don’t try to change their minds. I just run.”
McCarthy is originally from Nebraska. He now lives in the Bronx in a studio apartment. He logs 80 miles a week.
“I like to explore the neighborhoods of the city,” admits McCarthy. “I get funny looks when I wear my short running shorts.”
McCarthy destroyed the previous record, 248 miles, at the Sussex County Three Days at the Fair meet.
“During the race, I was excited to get the record,” said McCarthy. “But when the race was finally done, I was just relieved to stop running.”
