The Web just got more interesting for runners.

According a report posted on the SF Gate Web site, there’s a new way for runners to compete virtually.

The Web site GoGazella.com has launched a “Virtual Marathon Relay” that will last until June 30th, 2012. Participants create teams of two to six runners and race for 52 miles.

In order to count, runners have to take part in any race from a 5K to the marathon from April 1 and June 30. The runners submit their times and provide a link as proof.

The “Virtual Marathon Relay” is free to enter.

There are several categories that teams can compete in–categories such as marathon only or women only.

Winning teams will receive prizes from the following sponsors: Road Runner Sports, Halo Headbands, Honey Stinger, NaturaStride, Go Sport ID, Natural Running Store, Knog, and Allied Medal Displays.

GoGazella is calling itself a social network for marathon runners. Visitors can create a profile, log their miles, and find training partners.
