Ndungu Repeats At Dublin Marathon
He just wanted to win regardless of time.
He just wanted to win regardless of time.
Geoffrey Ndungu repeated as Dublin Marathon champion last weekend. The Kenyan clocked two hours, 11 minutes, and 9 seconds to break the tape. However, this time was several minutes slower than the 2:08:33 course record he ran last year.
“I knew I was strong. I started pushing at 39K,” the winner said.. “I just run to win. Anytime I come to Dublin I want to win this race.”
The first Irishman to cross the line was Paul Pollock, who came across in 2:16:33.
Sein Heir was the second man from Ireland. He finished 30 seconds behind Pollock.
More than 14,000 runners took part in the race, which was held in near-perfect conditions. It was a record turnout for the annual event.
And despite the higher-than-ever popularity of the race, it was not broadcast on television because it does not have a title sponsor.
The race course routes runners through Dublin’s O’Connell Street, Parnell Square and the North Circular Road. The participants then wind through the city’s famed Phoenix Park.
