Napa Valley Marathon Earns National Award

This year's edition of the race was the Road Runners Club Club of America's National Marathon Championship.

This year’s edition of the race was the Road Runners Club Club of America’s National Marathon Championship.

The Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon was recently named as one of the Road Runners Club of America’s (RRCA) 2012 National Running Award recipients.

The annual race, held in March, is 35 years old.

In keeping with the spirit of the locale, winners typically receive their weight in wine at the award ceremony. This year’s edition, which took place on March 3, also served as the RRCA National Marathon championship.

“We have great respect for the good work the RRCA does and we’re honored to have served as its 2012 Road Race of the Year,” said Rich Benyo, the race’s co-director. “It takes a huge team to put on a viable road race, and our team of board members, volunteers, and sponsors pull together to improve the race on a yearly basis. We’ve been fortunate to host the RRCA’s Marathon Championships for so many years, and look forward to working closely with them at future Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon races.”
