Motigo, a motivational running app that plays personalized messages from friends, family and supporters, is trying something new.
The app has partnered with the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon on Sunday to produce an audio tour of the 13.1-mile race course.
Famed race announcer Whit Raymond will narrate the tour. Runners participating in the half can turn it on and listen to fun facts, course instructions and other tidbits that automatically play at certain spots along the course (based on GPS), which can supplement music and any other motivational messages already in place.
In addition, there will be in-race giveaways through the race’s title sponsor, Newton. Select runners will hear an audio message directly from Newton during the race letting them know what they just won.
“As a race director, I’m intrigued by the possibilities of our partnership with Motigo,” said Matt Dockstader, founder of Destination Races. “Not only can runners receive inspirational audio messages from their supporters on course, but we can provide instructions and share information about various points of interest during the race. It opens up an entirely new communication platform for the race and our sponsors.”
