Morgan Uceny Headlining Millrose 800m

She was ranked #1 in the world in the 1500m last year.

The 800m event at the upcoming Millrose Games just got more interesting. Entered into the mix is one of America’s best hopes for a middle-distance medal at the 2012 Olympics, Morgan Uceny.

This year’s Millrose meeting, the 105th edition, will be taking place on the famed Armory track as opposed to Madison Square Garden, where it was previously held.

Uceny, a former Cornell University standout, will be squaring off against the 2011 U.S. Indoor 800m champion, Phoebe Wright, World Championships finalist, Maggie Vessey, and 2011 World Youth Champion, Ajee Wilson.

“I’m excited to get to race at the Armory again,” Uceny said. “I won a conference championship on this track and remember the track being fast and the energy high.”

Uceny’s 2011 season was phenomenal. She won three Diamond League races. She also put forth the fastest 1500m time last year (4:00.06) in Brussels.

Other contenders in the 800m event include Latavia Thomas, Lea Wallace, Chunyu Wang of China, and Aly Goldfarb of Israel.
