Molly Huddle Considering Move Up To 10K

The former Notre Dame standout took 11th in the Olympic 5000m.

Even though the American-record holder in the women’s 5000m, Molly Huddle, has returning to the U.S. without an Olympic medal, this doesn’t mean she’s hanging up her spikes.

On the contrary, Huddle is now looking at the 2016 Games in Rio De Janeiro and may “move up” in distance to the 10,000m event.

“She has plans to continue training with the intent of preparing for the 2016 Olympics in Rio,” said her father, Dr. Robert Huddle of Elmira, New York.

Her father also said that her daughter isn’t done racing in Europe this year. She will return to Brussels for the Diamond League Meet next month. “She wants to run the 5,000 there, in the hopes of lowering her season’s overall performance a little more,” he said.

Huddle clocked a relatively slow 15:20 in London earlier this month to take 11th in the final.

But her father says Huddle isn’t down about the experience. “She puts it all in perspective and says, 11th place, you know… but it’s 11th place out of everyone in the world who is eligible to compete.”
