Melissa Burkhart Wins Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon

There were some speedy times at the 33rd edition of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon last weekend, according to a press release from organizers.
Ryan Meissen, a 35-year-old from Mukwonago, was the overall winner for the second time, clocking in at 2:28:23.
Zachary Meineke of Wauwatosa was second in the men’s category with a time of 2:30:06, while Josh Kaplan of Portland, Ore. finished third at 2:34:12.
On the women’s side, the overall winner was Melissa Burkart, 31. She finished the race in 2:45:31, recording the seventh fastest time in the 33-year history of the race. Amanda Daws of Milwaukee finished second with a time of 2:58:26, while Ruth Swedler of Milwaukee finished third at 3:04:20.
The signature event from Wisconsin’s oldest and longest running club filled to capacity in early April 2013 with 3,100 runners. A picture perfect day greeted runners along the course, with temperatures in the low to mid 50s throughout the day.
