Meghan Peyton Set For .US Champs

This year's U.S. 20K champion has been balancing coaching and competing.

This year’s U.S. 20K champion has been balancing coaching and competing.

Augsburg College coach Meghan Peyton recently sat down with the USATF to chat about her prospects at the forthcoming .US Championships this weekend in Alexandria, Va.

Peyton is currently in sixth place in the USARC (USA Road Circuit) standings. She won the U.S. 20K Road Championships this year and has garnered top-10 finishes at the marathon, 5K, and 10K Championships.

“It really comes down to prioritization,” Peyton said of the balance between coaching and competing. “Both coaching and competing are very important to me. When I look at my day and my week, I try to see when I might have to wake up early to get in my long run so I can also get in a practice with my team. My athletes are so awesome. They’re always asking me about my races. Having them involved is an inspiration to me and it makes me a better runner and a better coach. To run at this level, you have to be dedicated and I think the balance is good for me.”
