Reigning U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi is the latest member of the Elliptigo Project, a group of elite athletes focused on using innovative training tools and techniques to improve performance, the company announced today.

Keflezighi, 37, is the twenty first member of the Project, which also includes Neely Spence, Magdalena Lewy Boulet, Julie Culley, Lauren Fleshman and Dean Karnazes, amongst others.

Cross-training through injuries and other unfortunate circumstances is nothing new to Keflezighi, whose running was limited after the 2011 New York City Marathon due to an infected blister. He will be using the Elliptogo as part of his preparation for the upcoming Boston Marathon.

“[Cross-training] provides an ideal way for me to get in a cardio workout without stressing my body with another run,” Keflezighi said in a release. “Cross-training has been a big part of my normal training regime throughout my career. With my infected foot, I couldn’t run for several weeks, so there was no way I could rely on run training to prepare me for the Trials.”
