Meb Becomes Part Owner Of Running Store Chain

Three-time Olympian teams up with two-time Olympian Bob Kennedy in San Diego.

First Meb Keflezighi left Mammoth Lakes, Calif. for the sunny confines of San Diego late last year.

A few months ago, we wrote how his former home was on the real estate market following his move.

And this week, things are all coming together: Meb, along with former Olympic runner Bob Kennedy, is now a part owner of San Diego area running store chain Movin Shoes.

As Meb was relocating to the southern end of California, Kennedy acquired the three stores that have been San Diego fixtures for 25 years. The two runners are now business partners, according to Runner’s World.

Meb is a three-time Olympian, and won the silver medal in the 2004 Olympic marathon. Last summer at the London Games, he placed fourth in the event.

Kennedy ran the 5000m at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, and at one time was the American record holder in the 3000m, 2-mile and 5000m events. He sold his stake in a chain of running stores in the Indianapolis area last fall and hinted at another project down the road.

“I’m excited about a new idea and vision I’m working on right now,” he told Runner’s World. “I’ll have something to talk about in a couple of months. I can tell you it is in the running industry. I’m confident it’s a viable idea.”

It’s unclear if Kennedy was referring to the Movin Shoes deal at the time.
