Mead Out For Season At Minnesota

Senior cross country runner hospitalized from collapsed lung.

Hassan Mead, a senior cross country runner at the University of Minnesota, is out for the entire season after suffering from a collapsed lung September 3 during a training run.

Mead, a two-time Big Ten cross country champion who won the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational last season, will not join his teammates on the starting line of the Griak race on Sunday. Coach Steve Plasencia said that Mead–who is pursuing a degree in physical therapy–is recovering well and has already returned to class.

“Hassan is doing well,” Plasencia told The Star Tribune. “He is out of the hospital, back in class.”
