He says he’s feeling healthy and ready following his marathon debut.
Matt Tegenkamp is an Olympian and one of the best American distance runners on the roads and tracks right now. He recently sat down with the USATF in the lead-up to the .US National Road Racing Championships in Alexandria, Va. this weekend.
Tegenkamp, a University of Wisconsin standout, debuted in the marathon this year.
He leads the standings in the USARC (USA Running Circuit), having won the U.S. 20K Championships for the second year in a row.
“I’m in recovery and maintenance mode now,” Tegenkamp says. “I gave myself a five-week turnaround from the marathon. It’s been tough at times. It took a full three weeks to get to the point where I wanted to do workouts. I was able to maintain my fitness and I don’t think I lost any of that in that time away. Running the marathon probably helped my fitness. I’m just making sure I have my legs. It’ll be a fun, exciting race and I’m feeling healthy and ready.”
