Marine Show Of Force At 4-Miler

The top three men were all “Leathernecks.”

Running USA has posted results and a writeup from the Crossroads 4-Miler in Quantico, Va. on Saturday. The race was presented by the Marine Corps Marathon, and, not surprisingly, a Marine won the race.

Master Sergeant Jeffery Klemmer was the first person to break the tape in 22:59. Second place went to Lieutenant Colonel Alex Hetherington, while Major Kenneth Parisi was third.

The women’s winner was Mindy Sullivan from Woodbridge, Va. Captain Erin Demchko and Julie Hartenbach took second and third, respectively.

Jason Van Horn won the male masters category.

“The MCM always has hills on the course, and I love a challenge,” said Van Horn.  “The Semper Fidelis Memorial Park and the whole museum complex was great.”

While many races focus on the top finishers, Jamie Watts, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was officially the event’s last finisher and had this to say about the sponsoring organization: “The MCM is an organization that truly accepts everyone. By far, these [MCM Events] are my favorite to compete in because they really are the people’s events.”
