“Marathon Man” Heading For His Toughest Race

He will run around the Sahara Desert in the summertime.

Forget leaping tall buildings with a single bound, how about running in one the hottest places in the world? That’s what the self-described “marathon man”, 38-year-old Trent Morrow, is doing. The sales manager by day spends all his yearly vacation traveling the globe in order to run marathons and ultra marathons while wearing a superman-esque costume.

He’s now planning to head to the Sahara Desert in Northern Africa to run around it–in the middle of summer.

“There is a bit of insanity involved,” he said. “I had never run a marathon until 2007 when I competed in the Marathon des Sables, which is considered the toughest race in the world.”

Morrow is raising money for the fight against Noma, a gangrenous disease that leads to tissue destruction in the face.

“It’s a big problem in places like Ethiopia and Nigeria,” he said. “It’s about raising awareness of the disease as well. Knowing that I’ve done something similar in the past and having had the preparation of running 16 marathons in 2011, I know I’ll be able to push myself through.”
