According to a report posted on the Chicago Tribune’s Web site, a lottery will be used to complete the registration for the annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
On February 19, registration for the race was suspended due to technical difficulties experienced on the race’s Web site. Next Tuesday, the lottery period will open up to fill the remaining 15,000 slots.
On March 12, lottery winners will be notified via email and have two days to complete the registration. There is no fee for signing up for the lottery.
Accordingly, entries to the lottery are limited to one per individual.
With 45,000 entrants, the Chicago Marathon is one of the largest marathons in the world. Thus far, approximately 30,000 runners have successfully registered for the race. The race’s Web site had crashed four hours after opening up for registration on February 19.
At that point, marathon officials decided to stop the registration process. The annual race takes place on October 13 this year.
