Bretan breaks the women’s course record en route to victory.

Frenchman Francois Lhuissier and California resident Anna Bretan won the Wipro San Francisco Marathon on Sunday.

Bretan, who was the victor at last year’s Oakland Marathon, broke the tape in 2:42:26. It was the ninth fastest time of the day and the best in the female division. Bretan’s time set a new course record.

“I am just so excited to win this, I kind of can’t believe it,” Bretan said in a press release. Bretan has three children and lives in Berkeley, Calif.

Lhuissier, a doctor, lives in New York City and is a visiting scholar at Columbia University. He crossed the line in 2:25:15.

This was Lhuissier’s first marathon win.

Between the marathon, two half-marathons and a 5K, more than 20,000 runners competed in the event.
