Lel Commits To Great North Run
Defending champion will attempt to repeat next month.
Kenya’s Martin Lel, who won last year’s BUPA Great North Run, will return next month to defend his title in the 30th running of the event.
He will be challenged by marathon world-record holder Haile Gebreselassie of Ethiopia, who will be running the race for the first time in his storied career.
Lel, who has been training in the United States recently while recovering from injury, has won the BUPA Great North Run twice, recording the race’s second-fastest ever time of 59 minutes 32 seconds in winning last year.
