Jody Dushay of Newton, Massachusetts won the Palm Beach Marathon on Sunday. Her victory was her second-straight Palm Beach title. Dushay’s finishing time was 2:55:49. Dushy had not decided to run the marathon until last Wednesday and was contemplating competing in the California International Marathon instead.
Besides her win, Dushay, a married mother of three, had another reason to celebrate:
“I definitely made the right choice,” she said. “We had a really great weekend. It was our 20th wedding anniversary and we celebrated on Thursday.”
Dushay’s victory on Sunday was her fourth career marathon. Recalling how the race unfolded afterwards, Dushay mentioned the challenges brought on by the warm temperatures.
“At Mile 20 I was thinking it’s time to pick it up, but it was hard and it was a little hot,” Dushay said. “Now it’s more of a drag when you know those miles are coming. It was a lot easier last year in a way.”
