One of the prestigious indoor track meets in the world is getting one of the best runners.
On Tuesday, organizers for the 106th edition of the Millrose Games in New York City announced that Bernard Lagat will be returning to the event.
The 38-year-old American is no stranger to the venue. After all, he’s won the famed Wannamaker Mile eight times in his career.
And just last year at Millrose, Lagat set a new American record in the indoor 5,000m, 13:07.15.
This year, Lagat will be running the 2-mile event. His goal will be to break the existing record, 8:09.72. Lagat will be competing against Kenya’s Lawi Lalang and Canada’s Cam Levins.
In other Millrose news, Nick Symmonds will be joining the 600m field along with Duane Solomon. Both runners clocked sub-1:43 last summer’s Olympic Games in London.
They are surely out to break the 26-year-old mark 1:15.80 that was set by Chip Jenkins.
