Komon Repeats At Dam To Dam Race

He was in Holland to set a new world record, but came up short.

With the weather on his side, Leonard Komon blazed his way across Holland on Sunday, repeating a win at the Dam tot Damloop 10-miler.

His finishing time was 44:48.

Despite the win, Komon came up shy to Haile Gebreselassie’s by more than 20 seconds. However, the 24-year-old Kenyan managed to run the fastest 10-mile this year.

“The weather was good this year. I do not know where it went wrong,” Komon said afterwards. Even though he won, Komon had come to Holland with just one purpose: set a new world record. “I’m going to go home and think about the cause,” he added.

Last year, Komon ran one-second faster.

Daniel Chebi took second, while Abera Kuma of Ethiopia was third.

In the women’s race, Silvia Kibet of Kenya prevailed in 51:42. Second place went to Bezunesh Bekele of Ethiopia, while

“This gives me a taste for more,” said Kibet Third place was awarded to Esther Chemta.
