Kipsiro Doubles Up On Commonwealth Gold

Ugandan wins 10,000 meters to capture second gold medal at Commonwealth Games.

Ugandan wins 10,000 meters to capture second gold medal at Commonwealth Games.

Moses Kipsiro blitzed the final 400 meters to win his second Commonwealth Games gold medal on Sunday, taking the 10,000 meters in 27:57.39. The 24-year-old Ugandan had already won the 5,000 meters earlier in the Games, and upset a strong contingent of Kenyans in both races.

“They run as a team and that is the only way I would have beaten them. I am so joyous. Thanks be to God,” said the excited Kipsiro.

Kipsiro became the first runner to win both events at the Commonwealth Games since 1938, when Cecil Matthews of New Zealand took both the 3 and 6-mile titles.
