Kiprotich Taking a Break From the Track

The Olympic gold medalist in the marathon is keeping a low profile.

Uganda’s Stephen Kiprotich deserves a break. After all, the surprise gold medalist at the Olympic marathon in August has had a hectic year.

According to a report posted on AllAfrica.com, Kiprotich isn’t planning to race again until 2013.

“He has never broken training but he will only return to serious competition in 2013,” said Kiprotich’s manager Godfrey Nuwagaba.

Prior to his Olympic race, Kiprotich finished third in the Tokyo Marathon in February. In May, three months before the London race, the Ugandan again secured third at a 10K in Sheffield, England.

Nuwagaba says his athlete is currently eyeing the 2013 season with trainer Jos Hermens. The goal will certainly be a gold medal at the World Championships in Athletics in Moscow.

Besides the press he’s garnered for his Olympic gold, Kiprotich has become famous for receiving money from the government of Uganda to build a large three-bedroom house for his parents who had been living in squalor previously.
